Role Overview
This is not just another engineering management job – a position targeted for a long-term business partner who will drive the company's engineering function. You will own the mechanical design discipline end-to-end, driving drafting standards and working in lockstep with Process and Controls Engineering to deliver safe, buildable, and commercially efficient outcomes. You will have the opportunity to work towards an equity deal based on contribution, leadership, and long-term commitment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Commercial Management:
- Agile Leadership: Act as a consulting ability, agile leader to build and lead a high-output engineering team.
- P/L & Account Management: You will run your own P/L and handle Account Management duties, demonstrating ownership mentality in margin protection.
- Project Load: Can run up to 2 complex projects at a time to understand work-load while managing the broader department.
- Estimation: Provide Class 2 level estimates to support quoting with accurate hours and technical input.
- Resource Planning: Plan and allocate engineering resources across multiple projects simultaneously.
Technical Expertise & Design Oversight:
- CAD & Standards: Lead teams using Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D, ensuring accurate modelling of equipment, skids, and piping systems.
- Design Excellence: Drive design optimization for fabrication, installation speed, cost, and long-term maintainability.
- Compliance: Ensure all design outputs and mechanical engineering meet relevant codes/standards (AS/NZS, ISO, mining regulations).
- Multi-Disciplinary Integration: Facilitate engineering integration workshops and resolve cross-discipline clashes early.
Project Delivery & Reliability:
- End-to-End Delivery: Own mechanical scopes from tender to commissioning (Concept → FEED → Detailed Design → IFC → Fabrication → Site install).
- Mining Expertise: Provide guidance based on real mining project experience regarding constructability and operability in mining conditions.
- Continuous Improvement: Manage design risk, reliability considerations, and safety-in-design.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in mining, minerals processing, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Plant 3D, and model coordination tools such as Navisworks and Vault.
- Leadership: Proven track record managing engineering and drafting teams , with the ability to set expectations and KPIs.
- Project Delivery: Experience delivering projects through fabrication, assembly, and site installation , including a solid understanding of controls and instrumentation interfaces.
- Mindset approach to have: Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving ability, with a commitment to a long-term partnership and equity pathway.
- Qualifications (Highly Regarded): RPEQ, CPEng certification, or eligibility is desirable.
- Specialist Experience: Experience with lithium, gold, copper, or desalination/process water plants is preferred.
- Fabrication & Systems: Exposure to international fabrication (e.g., Philippines, Vietnam) and experience developing engineering systems, templates, and standards from the ground up.
Salary & Work Rights
- $190K - $210K + Super
- Full Australian working rights required.
